Beginner operating system (Portuguese)
A1–A2 Portuguese means a small polite toolkit, finishable graded listening, and sentences you invent — not app-hopping across Brazil vs Portugal content without a default. Pick one variety for the first month; variety notes come later on the hub.
Week-by-week month
- Week 1 — 20 First 500 words/day recognition; one short graded clip finished daily; survival frames (ser/estar basics, onde, gostaria).
- Week 2 — Invent five spoken sentences/day; 45-second voice note of your day; type without English crutches.
- Week 3 — Topic deck (food/directions); re-listen week-1 audio without pausing every word.
- Week 4 — 60-word week paragraph; batch gender/agreement errors you keep making; one short conversation attempt (tutor or exchange).
Daily 25-minute template
- 3 min — yesterday’s three words aloud
- 10 min — First 500 or topic deck
- 12 min — graded listening + 30-second retell
Model micro-paragraph (week 4): Esta semana estudei português. Ouvi áudios fáceis e escrevi um diário curto. Aprendi cinco palavras novas. Quero falar mais amanhã.
Portuguese-specific traps
- Switching Brazil ↔ Portugal media every day before one default sticks
- Grammar drills without diary lines
- Spanish interference ignored (false friends)
- SRS decks larger than speaking time

A solid practice day
Finish one listening or reading piece you can actually complete. Invent three new sentences. Record a short spoken retell. If the input is too hard, step down — don’t open another app.
