Directory 14 resource listings . A short orientation and a solid starting list.
Honest start for Czech: pick one beginner course or community program from the list, add 10–15 minutes of listening most days, and bookmark one reference. Czech and Slovak are close enough to have functioned as a shared literary and broadcast language for much of the 20th century under Czechoslovakia, and speakers of each can generally still understand the other today. Czech retains a rich case system and famously long consonant clusters with few vowels, as in the tongue-twister 'strč prst skrz krk.' The written standard was substantially shaped during a 19th-century national revival movement.
Speaker counts are approximate orders of magnitude for learners, not census figures. Family labels follow Glottolog-style classification; vitality notes (when shown) follow UNESCO WAL / Ethnologue-style framing and should be re-checked for program planning.
