High Valyrian is a constructed language created by David J. Peterson for Game of Thrones and expanded for House of the Dragon. Duolingo’s course is the practical starting path; grammar documentation and community dictionaries fill gaps. Expect a rich inflectional system — closer to a classical language classroom than a phrasebook.

Speaker counts are approximate orders of magnitude for learners, not census figures. Family labels follow Glottolog-style classification; vitality notes (when shown) follow UNESCO WAL / Ethnologue-style framing and should be re-checked for program planning.
