Directory 9 resource listings . A short orientation and a solid starting list.
Honest start for Georgian: pick one beginner course or community program from the list, add 10–15 minutes of listening most days, and bookmark one reference. Ignore the rest of the directory until those three habits are alive. Learn the writing system with the script trainer before heavy vocabulary. Use the First 500 trainer for high-frequency words. Georgian belongs to the small Kartvelian family, unrelated to the Indo-European, Turkic, or Semitic languages that surround the Caucasus region, and its nearest relatives — Svan, Mingrelian, and Laz — are themselves distinct enough to not be mutually intelligible with it. It uses its own Mkhedruli script, one of only a handful of alphabets in the world unrelated to any other, and has a written literary tradition going back roughly 1,500 years. Its grammar is known for a complex, ergative-patterned verb system that can encode subject, object, and indirect object information all within a single verb.
Speaker counts are approximate orders of magnitude for learners, not census figures. Family labels follow Glottolog-style classification; vitality notes (when shown) follow UNESCO WAL / Ethnologue-style framing and should be re-checked for program planning.
