What to do this month

1. Add slow news and graded podcasts weekly — then graduate toward Tagesschau.
2. Keep expanding root families instead of collecting random word lists.
3. Book speaking time (italki or equivalent). Reading alone will not finish B2.
4. Drill cases and verb prefixes that keep collapsing in speech with quick practice.

A realistic weekly rhythm

• Three short root/cloze sessions, two denser listens, one speaking appointment or voice note.
• One reading day that moves from graded material toward a short native piece.

Keep sessions short enough to finish. A twenty-five minute loop you repeat beats a two-hour Sunday binge you abandon. If a day collapses, restart with listening only — do not punish yourself with a backlog.

German-specific traps

• Passive series binge with no output.
• Reading only translations of novels you loved in English.
• Avoiding speaking until cases feel perfect.
• Orphan vocabulary outside families.

Media choice this month

A solid practice day

Finish one denser listening or reading piece, invent three sentences that could show up at work or school, and record a short spoken retell. If you cannot finish the input, step down one difficulty rung — don’t restart an easier course for comfort. Note whether the bottleneck was vocabulary, grammar frames, or willingness to speak. Repeat this pattern on three weekdays before stacking new resources.

When cases collapse in speech, drill five give/put frames aloud before new vocabulary. When Sie/du wobbles, default Sie in writing until invited. When listening feels fake, use the fifteen-minute listen guide and retell out loud. When speaking stalls, book a short tutor session even if the grammar still feels messy.
