C1–C2 mastery
Synthèse muscles, vous-register email, hedges, and DALF-aware production.
What to do this month
- Follow a weekly media sheet (France Info / RFI style), then retell with the sheet tasks.
- Production: output workshop + assessed C1 tasks; pair with DALF prep notes if you need an exam gym.
- Drill register, workplace pack, and collocations.
- Work DLI GLOSS French for denser reading; shadow one short news segment weekly.
A realistic weekly rhythm
- Native media daily; structured register or GLOSS work twice a week.
- One domain focus for the month so advanced vocabulary clusters instead of scattering.
Keep sessions short enough to finish. A twenty-five minute loop you repeat beats a two-hour Sunday binge you abandon. If a day collapses, restart with listening only — do not punish yourself with a backlog.
French-specific traps
- Opinion inside synthèse.
- Bah/en gros in formal writing.
- Exam manuals as the only input.
- Missing concession in essai structure.
Media choice this month
France Info/RFI sheets; compress without stance.
Output task
Synthèse minis + formal email + assessed C1 tasks.
French C1 writing is compression and hedge control — train synthèse weekly even if you are not sitting DALF.
Synthèse muscle
Two sources → 120 words → zero opinion.
Vous email
Delay/request/refusal weekly with model compare.
Hedges
dans une certaine mesure / toutefois / il convient de.
Bridge
/guides/french-c1-writing/ + DALF guide + phrasebank.

Madame, Monsieur, je vous informe que le rapport arrivera avec deux jours de retard. Je vous l’enverrai jeudi et reste disponible pour un court appel mercredi. Cordialement
Academic course: French academic writing. Exam layer: DALF C1.
A solid practice day
Do three things: listen to or read something and retell it in your own words; write or speak one real-world task and compare it with a model; run a short register or collocation drill. Score yourself on task completion, register, discourse markers, and control. Under 4 out of 8? Repeat the same brief before making it harder. Keep useful phrases in a notebook by situation — emails, meetings, complaints — so the drills show up in messages you actually send.

When narration stalls, force a two-minute past-tense story daily for a week. When synthèse leaks opinion, strike every first-person stance sentence. When listening feels fake, use the fifteen-minute listen guide and retell out loud. When speaking stalls, book a short tutor session even if the grammar still feels messy.
